Stevens History

Born out of a necessity to drink good wine during the COVID pandemic- the Virtual Wine Tasting Company was started so I could meet online with friends and family over a few nice bottles and have a wine tasting at home. It has since morphed into a business that includes in-person instruction, group classes, wine advice and cellar management. As a Certified Specialist in Wine (CSW) plus a Certified Wine Educator (CWE) I have also attained WSET Level 3 w/merit and Sommelier certification from both the National Wine School and the Court Of Master Sommeliers (Americas). I continue to take more advanced courses in wine and wine education. My passion is to make you as passionate about wine.

The Tastings

Having read wine magazines for over two decades I started a list of wine descriptors that were used by the writers, it's amazing what comes to people when they drink the stuff. Armed with the list, I designed a scoring sheet that had 20 points available to help tasters rate a wine. In a non-judgmental approach, each person at our tastings is free to add whatever descriptor they smell or taste to the notes. Peer discussion is a crucial part of the tasting where thoughts and ideas are exchanged.

The Basics

In Wine Tasting 101 we take all levels of wine drinkers and bring them back to basics- acid, tannin, body, finish, aromas, flavors and overall impressions. We go over the merits of glass design, discuss and demonstrate varying levels of acid and tannins and how they affect the palate followed by an introduction to the wine tasting scale. It's a fun and eye-opening experience that leads into tasting delicious wines.
